I am honored that you shared what happened to you, and I hope some day to meet you. What courage you had when you decided to take your brother on your back and fight for your life and escape. How right you are that we who love God must do so by loving his Creation! God's hand is on your life and I will join with others praying for you and Calvin. GOD BLESS YOU my brother!
Hol and Ben - I love you and miss you so much. I am so proud of the work you are doing. Places that I can never forget!

Dan's story is very sad, but thankfully - with courage and luck, he managed to survive!

Much has been said and written about the conflict in Northern Uganda; a place where I still have relatives and friends. But, few really understand its root cause.

One has to go all the way back to Obote (UPC) and Kabaka Mutesa (YK); and Idi Amin. And Museveni.

Museveni like Idi Amin - without foresight - has marginalised the Northern people; thinking, he can subjugate the Northerners forcefully. Such a proud people, especially the Acholis, will never accept such a way.

Then there are the foreign major powers. Uganda was left in a very good state by the British at independence; but, the British never stopped meddling in Uganda's affairs. Britain and Israel were the first countries that recognised Idi Amin's coup and take over from Obote, and immensely supported him at the beginning. Reason: Britain didn't like Obote's leanings towards socialism.

Very few people realize that, in the seventies and eighties - the US supported and funded Norhthern Sudan in its fight against the southern SPLA; and the Soviets supported the South. It was only in the nineties that the US changed sides, and started supporting the SPLA! In turn, Sudan supported the LRA. Now it is Darfur and Chad!

It is the interest of the foreign powers that has always come first, not the people they help!

People like Dan - then - have to suffer, face misery, torture and many times, death. At least, and happily, Dan survived and is able to tell his very incredible and moving story!Omar Basawadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07207239353410706571noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17460630.post-1145287131678970252006-04-17T17:18:00.000+02:002006-04-17T17:18:00.000+02:00Hi holly,This is Nickie. I admire that you have chosen to find love for God's creation and to work hard to promote justice for your country and people. I do hope that you get to law school! As a friend of Holly and Ben's, I have been praying for them and for Uganda every day. I will be praying for you and for others who have escaped captivity- I will pray that God will give you the grace and love to help your country and your people. Thank you so much for your story.

RyanAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
